Played a lot of stuff from the station today, including a few things I hadn't heard before (The Czars, The Bleedin Bleedins, Gnarls Barkley...). I'm quite glad I did. Gnarls Barkley's cover of the Violent Femmes' "Gone Daddy Gone" was better than I ever would have expected it to be. In fact, I'll probably play it in my next show or two. |

Another week, another show. Took a little dig at Issac Hayes and Scientology towards the end there. When I finished my show, I came home to an IM from my good pal Adam Wilson, linking me to an article that says Issac Hayes did not, in fact, quit South Park. You can read it for yourself. So anyway, I guess I take back what I said there. I still don't understand why people are paying any attention to a religion that was started by a failing science fiction writer.
There was no Concert Calendar Ridiculous Band Name of the Week Award today. Nobody was ridiculous enough. Sad, I know. |

Yup. Another radio show. Hope y'all enjoyed it. If anyone's going to the Of Montreal show tomorrow, I'd love to tag along. I usually don't venture into Nashville by myself, unfortunately. I hope everyone's enjoying my Concert Calendar Ridiculous Band Name of the Week Award. I sure am. If you read this LJ and listen to my show, drop me a line. Tell me what you like about the show, what you think I could work on, what you ate for breakfast, I dunno. JUST TALK TO MEEEEEE |

Got a bit of a late start on the show today. Note to self: waking up at 7:55 is not a good plan if your show starts at 8. Regardless, I think my show went pretty well. I did my first ever Concert Calendar Ridiculous Band Name Of The Week segment, complete with Yoshi's Island music. Hopefully the trend of silly band names will sustain, and you can look forward to a new ridiculous band name every week.
Hope everyone had a fantastic Valentine's Day. |

That's right. More Than A Feeling. I played it, what?
I've changed my mind about the whole weekly stupid band name thing, mostly because none of them were all that stupid this week. I've revised it a bit, so it's just the band name of the week. It can be good or bad, just the one that stands out the most. Here's this week's:
Concert Calendar Band Name Of The Week: How I Became The Bomb
Speaking of which, everyone should really go check them out tomorrow at The Boro. They're great. |

I went kinda heavier than usual in the 2nd hour of my show. For anyone who wasn't expecting that, I apologize. But y'know what, sometimes you JUST GOTTA ROCK! With that out of my system, maybe next week will all be really sissy pop music, who knows.
Near the end of my show, some guy called me up to inform me of this year's Bonnaroo line-up, and I must say, it sounds pretty huge. I recall hearing Beck, Radiohead, Bright Eyes... so, dude that called, sorry I didn't talk about it on the air, but thanks for the info.
This week's Ridiculous Band Name From The Concert Calendar is: Asschapel
Murfreesboro cats and doggies: Check out my good pal Louis Keller and his band Ethan Swim, they're playing at The Boro on Feb. 2nd at 9pm, featuring Murphey (formerly The Charlie Murphey Band) and Proto. $5. |

First of all, a huge thanks to Jeremy Kraemer (darthphunk on the Something Awful Forums) for making a killer promo for me. He does a hilarious Mario voice, and also a pretty good Ted Koppel. Or T-Kopp, as he once called him. Anyway, here's the playlist:

I almost didn't wake up for this show. I hit my alarm at 7:15 and went back to sleep, realizing what I had done at about 7:45. Fortunately, I made it in time. Sorry if I forgot to mention a couple of the songs that I played. I think I was kind of in a panic throughout the whole show, after having to run over to the LRC with only about 5 minutes to spare.
I played a couple songs from the new Advantage album, Elf-Titled, which is AMAZING. Oh, how I love video game covers.
Hopefully this show wasn't TOO much like my last one... let's see... this week's and last week's shows have 10 artists in common. I wonder if that's too many. Ah well, maybe I'll have some more fresh new artists next week.
Molesting Buddha is a ridiculous band name. Just for the record.
Thanks to "Jimmy G." for calling in and enjoying my show. |
